If you sell an online course or digital product, listen up, because in today’s video I’m spilling the 7 biggest mistakes I see business owners making on their sales pages and how you can avoid them!
Mistake #1: Page takes too long to load
The rest of these mistakes don’t matter, if you don’t fix this one first.
According to Google DoubleClick, “Websites that load in 5 seconds on mobile see 70% longer session durations”. (Google DoubleClick)
If your sales page is taking too long to load, here are a couple things you can do to speed it up:
- Make sure your sales page is SSL Certified, which is known to speed up your load time. You can purchase your SSL certificate through your website hosting company and they will usually help you install it.
- The biggest culprit of a slow sales page are massive images. If you’re using WordPress, you can use a tool like WP Smush to compress your images so that they load faster and don’t take up as much space.
Mistake #2: Not having an attention-grabbing opening headline
Now, once you have the page loading super fast for them, this is the second most crucial mistake you can not make if you want people to buy.
If someone doesn’t landon your sales page and immediately understand what it is that you’re trying to sell them, you will lose them.
And I don’t mean every little detail of your offer. I’m talking about what’s in it for them. Why should they keep reading? What are you going to help them do?
If that’s not clear, they will click away and it will be much harder to get them back again!
Mistake #3: Too many distractions
This is one of the most common mistakes I see on sales pages.
But, luckily, it’s one of the easiest to fix!
Here’s how to remove distractions from your sales page:
- Remove all headers, footers and navigation menus
- Disable all pop-ups on the page
- Remove all links to outside pages, including links in testimonials
Mistake #4: Call-to-action buttons aren’t easy to find
Want to know an easy way to lose sales? Bury your Buy Now buttons in your sales page so readers can’t find them.
Obviously, we don’t want to do that, so here are 4 ways to help your CTA buttons easy to find…
- Make your Buy Now buttons in a contrasting color that stands out
- Create CTA sections in a contrasting background color
- Make your button look like a button’
- Include multiple CTA buttons in case they miss previous ones
Mistake #5: Not including enough visuals to illustrate your offer
You’ve worked so hard on your sales page copy and making sure that it connects with your ideal customer, but did you drop the ball when it comes to visually showing your readers what your offer is all about?
A few visuals you need to include on your sales page:
- Testimonial images to show proof that they are real people
- A mockup of your online course or digital product to show them what’s included
- Mockups of any bonus material or guest experts
Mistake #6: Not showing enough social proof
With the rise of online courses, comes the rise of uneasy customers who have been burned too many times from buying something from someone online who didn’t deliver what they promised. The best thing you can do to ease their mind is show them testimonials from past clients and customers so they have proof that what you’re selling them actually works.
Don’t have any past customers for your online course or digital products? Ask your peers to chime in on what makes you great so you can show your potential customers that you really do know what you’re talking about.
Mistake #7: Sales page isn’t easy to read on mobile
Here are a few interesting statistics that prove just how crucial a mobile-optimized sales page really is…
According to CMS Report, “Average smartphone conversion rates are up 64% compared to the average desktop conversion rates.” (CMS Report)
According to MicKinsey & Company, “Google says 61% of users are unlikely to return to a mobile site they had trouble accessing and 40% visit a competitor’s site instead.” (MicKinsey & Company)
According to Google, “Over 40% of online transactions are now done on mobile” (Google, 2017)
The bottom line is – if your sales page isn’t easy to read and use from a smartphone, you WILL be leaving money on the table.
So go pull up your sales page on your smartphone right now and take a look! Is the text easy to read? Are the buttons clickable? Does everything look just as good on mobile as it does on your desktop?
If not, fix that right away so you stop losing sales.
